Marriage Get Away

Tyler and I had a great weekend together! We left Friday after work to go to Ohio for a church conference over the weekend. Just the two of us! Although it's not the beach and palm trees, it's always great to go on a mini adventure! I think there is SO much value in getting away from your day to day life with your spouse - even if it's only an hour or so away! Just time to be away and together. For some reason there is something stuck in a lot of our heads that in order for it to be a "get away" it's going to cost a lot of money, use up vacation time at work, and be planned out in advance. If this were true, we would only go on trips once a year... if that! haha. I don't know about you, but I love staying in a hotel that I don't have to clean and eating out every night, not having to cook and clean up dinner! When I'm at home I feel guilty for watching too much t.v. when there is a sink full of dishes and laundry to do. So having the weekend to spend reserved, quality time with my husband and not worrying about what else I have to get done is so refreshing! Not only was it refreshing to spend time together without responsibilities, but it was refreshing for our souls to worship Jesus together at the Kingdom Pursuit conference we attended over the weekend. We learned a lot through great teachings, received some amazing prayer and words from the Lord. It made it 10 times better that we were experiencing it all together. It's not the same experiencing those things alone and then trying to explain it all to your husband/wife when you get home! Tyler and I also just had simple fun together visiting Jungle Jim's World Market for the first time and eating out at different restaurants! I think when you're on the road together it makes life seem more simple. You're not worried about the bills waiting at home, cleaning, or feeding the pets. We just live in the moment and make memories! Now my head feels clear after our little get away and I'm ready to take on the work week! - A very short work week that ends with shopping and pie, that is! 😉

Challenge: For those of you who are married, I would love for you to experience a mini get away together! Just the two of you! It could be staying at a hotel downtown or a day trip to somewhere new! Let me know if you do it and what the experience was like!

Last Minute Gift Idea

Can you believe Christmas is only 6 days away?!?! I feel like Tyler and I just put up the tree! This is such a busy time of year for both my work and social life! But I love it! I am about done wrapping gifts for our family members. But it dawned on me that I left a few people out! Our neighbors, the mail man, my youth students, and a couple long distant cousins. So I had this simple and cheap Christmas gift idea! I used holiday to-go mugs and filled it with candy and packets of hot chocolate! I put a cute bow on top and gift tag and I was done! I think they turned out pretty great! Here are some pics! Let me know your last minute Christmas gift ideas! Or if you decided to give mine a try! Xo Xo ~ Valerie                                         Here are the mugs with bows and gift tags that I added!  What's Inside .... 3 packets of Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate! ...

DIY Christmas Cards

If you love to be creative and festive like me, then you will love making your very own Christmas cards! A nice card can be pretty expensive, so this year I decided to "DIY" my cards! I have always loved making personal birthday cards, so this year I thought, why not Christmas too?! I already had everything I needed to create the cards so the only thing that costed me was the stamps to mail them! Which is totally worth it to put a smile on my family's face with a little surprise in the mail! Here are some tips and pics of my DIY 2019 Christmas cards!  I used Christmas themed scrapbook paper and folded it over to make it thicker, like a card. I also added these cute scrapbook stickers.  They add so much cuteness to the cards!!  Nice stickers can be be pretty pricy at the craft stores, but my Grandma is so sweet and picks me up some stickers all year round when she goes to Goodwill and gets them for .99 for a brand new pack! Focus On The Good

I hope everyone is doing well given the circumstances we are all dealing with. It comes and goes for me... sometimes I'm cool, and then other times it hits me like a ton of bricks that pretty much the whole world is on a lock down and I'm seeing some of my favorite local places in my town being forced to shut down. I'm the type of person that one minute I believe ignorance is bliss, then next minute, I'm trying to take on all of the world's problems. Funny how that works. But I've come to the realization that it's time to focus on the good things in life! There is absolutely nothing I can do about this global pandemic. But I CAN control my attitude about it and I CAN  control how to make the best use of my time. Here are a few ways I've been able to focus on the good: 1. I've been texting and having REAL phone conversations more!  I know this sounds odd, but usually I just spend my social time on my phone through Facebook and Instagram-scrolli...
